Omnipod Bay | Gamifying the
Diabetic Experience

Omnipod, a leader in tubeless insulin pump technology, wanted to reach their youngest users in a space where they feel most comfortable: digital gaming. The goal was to launch "Omnipod Bay," a custom-designed island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, to foster community, inclusivity, and brand positivity among children and teens living with Type 1 Diabetes.

The Challenge

Healthcare branding for children often feels clinical or "scary." The challenge was to integrate a medical reality into a fantasy world in a way that felt like a feature, not a burden. We needed to create a space that celebrated life in motion while normalizing the use of insulin pumps and CGMs (Continuous Glucose Monitors).

The Solution:
"An Island for Everyone"

We developed a comprehensive digital ecosystem that mirrored the Omnipod brand identity—bright, optimistic, and uninhibited. By utilizing Animal Crossing’s custom design tools, we allowed players to wear the brand—literally—on their avatars.

Visual Strategy

Inclusive Customization: We designed 20 unique in-game skin tones and outfits featuring visible Omnipod devices. This empowered players to see themselves represented in their favorite game, turning a medical device into a "Power Suit" for the digital world.

 

Environmental Storytelling: The island was built with specific "Healthy Zones," such as the Healthy Snacks Station and Carb Counting Workshops, seamlessly blending educational elements into the relaxing gameplay loop of ACNH.

Cinematic Integration: The "Space Update" promotional film used high-energy, upbeat editing and "Star-Bound" motifs (astronaut suits, moonwalks) to reinforce the idea that with the right tech, the possibilities are infinite.

Deliverables

In-Game Assets: Custom clothing designs, "Omnipod Bay" island layout, and branded signage.

Launch Trailer: A 30-second high-energy motion piece featuring in-game footage and custom-

animated typography.

OOH & Social: A series of "Postcards from the Bay" digital ads optimized for community-focused platforms like Discord and Instagram.​

The Results

Brand Empathy: Successfully shifted the narrative of insulin management from a clinical chore to a badge of community pride.

Community Engagement: "Omnipod Bay" became a hub for young users to connect, share their designs, and normalize their experiences in a pressure-free environment.

Industry Recognition: This campaign stood out as a premier example of how "Life-Science" brands can utilize the "Metaverse" for genuine social good.
